Vernon and District Immigrant and Community Services Society supports the social and economic integration of immigrants, refugees, refugee claimants, temporary foreign workers, post-secondary international students, and provincial nominees who are not yet permanent residents. Immigration and settlement services include needs assessment, orientation, information and referral to community services, and basic information on navigating immigration and work permit applications.
Settlement Program: Provides services to immigrants, refugees, and refugee claimants residing in the greater Vernon area.
Community Connection: VDICSS provides community connections that helps connect clients with the broader community, public institutions, and community organizations. These services also provide opportunities for partners, volunteers, and local community members to be actively engaged in settlement programming.
Community connections program also offers tutoring in Vernon and Enderby for one on one tutoring as well as Conversation Groups.
Employment Services: The program provides employment-related services to equip clients with employment-related skills and support in accessing the labour market; including preparation for the credential assessment process, job search assistance, and employment preparation.
Language services: Vernon & District Immigrant Services Society provides free English language training through the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program. Students learn and practice English through settlement-related topics such as housing, banking, transportation, and community resources while learning more about the community of Vernon through field trips and guest speakers.
Childminding: Free licensed childminding is available for the children of clients accessing services. If required, please ask about this service when making an appointment.
