Provided by BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCWH)
- Who are experiencing an unintended or unwanted pregnancy
- Who require abortion for genetic or medical reasons.
- Patients can phone and book their own appointments. A doctor's referral is not necessary.
Tubal ligations can be provided at the same time if the abortion if less than 16 weeks and if the woman is fit for surgery.
The CARE Special Services Program provides surgical abortions up to the 24th week of pregnancy through the BC Women's Abortion Clinic (CARE Program) and coordinates care for women who require pregnancy termination following a diagnosis of fetal anomaly or because of maternal complications. They also provide services to women whose gestational age is beyond the scope of the four abortion clinics in BC and to women who, for medical reasons, need to have the abortion done under a general anesthetic.
The program also offers counselling advice and information either in person at the Clinic in Vancouver or via telephone counselling line:
