Supportive Cancer Care Program

Provided by BC Cancer

Offers a wide range of programs to help BC Cancer patients manage the physical, emotional, social and practical concerns that come with having a cancer diagnosis and treatments
BC Cancer Supportive Care Services are available at all regional centres. Some services can be accessed by the patient, while other require a referral from a doctor or nurse. Services include:
  • Psychiatry
  • Counselling/Social Work
  • Nutrition
  • Speech and Language Pathology
  • Pain & Symptom Management/Palliative Care
  • Spiritual Care
  • Art Therapy, and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselling for people with cancer

Limitation: Provides supportive care for patients with cancer-related issues and with relatively severe pathology in some disciplines (e.g. dietitians do a lot more feeding tube management than advice on healthy eating).

Referral:
  • A referral is required for some services
  • Patients can self-refer to Patient & Family Counselling, Spiritual Care and Vocational Rehabilitation
