Supports families and individuals of all ages, cultures, and socio-economic backgrounds through programs delivered individually or in groups.
The following programs are offered:
  • Adoption Resource & Support (ARS): Aims to assist adoptive parents and children to have healthy experiences throughout the adoption journey. This service is provided through education, skill building and support ARS service is free and available without a referral. Some referrals are made by an Adoption Social Worker at MCFD.
  • Child and Youth Mental Health Outreach Program (CYMHO): Provides hands-on intensive treatment and support to children/youth and their families suffering significant distress due to the young person’s mental health issues. Referrals are made through the MCFD Child and Youth Mental Health Team.
  • Community Kitchens: Learn recipes and techniques on a budget, share skills such as planning and shopping, and come together to cook and preserve nutritious, local food.
  • Community Support Counselling Program: Provides services for individuals, children and families. This program offers support on topics including separation or divorce, anger management, grief and loss, attachment parenting, communication strategies, anxiety, depression, self-esteem and empowerment, and advocacy in relation to community resources and connections. Self-referral, or from another agency. Cases are taken on and evaluated based on the topic of concern and also the severity.
  • Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Network: Provides support for these Grandparents as they face very unique and significant challenges of parenting a second time. They can contact the program for help as they navigate complex legal and government systems. There are opportunities to buddy-up with another Grandparent who understands what they are going through. The program also can offer support to Grandparents as they deal with the emotional and financial issues that often come with their situation.
  • Intensive Family Preservation (IFP): A program for families whose children/adolescents are at imminent risk of out-of-home placement. Referrals are made through the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).
  • Legal Advocacy Program: Provides free information, summary advice, referrals, and legal representation to the residents of the Shuswap who are struggling accessing other legal resources.
  • Nobody’s Perfect Parenting Program: A free, parent support and education program for parents/full time care givers of children from birth to age 5. Groups typically meet once a week for two hours over six weeks.
  • Pregnancy Outreach Program: Also called Shuswap Healthiest Babies Possible, is a free and confidential service to support you in having a healthy baby.
  • Sexual Abuse Intervention Program (SAIP): Provides a range of appropriate, timely and accessible assessment, treatment and/or support services to children and youth who have been sexually abused.
  • Stop Now And Plan (SNAP): SNAP®, which stands for STOP NOW AND PLAN, is an evidence-based, cognitive-behavioural model powered by the minds at Child Development Institute (CDI). SNAP® helps troubled children and their parents learn how to effectively manage their emotions and ‘keep problems small’.
  • Sustainable Food Programs: A community teaching garden which is accessible to all!
  • The Connect Parent Program: A 10 week Attachment Based Parenting Program. Groups are offered two times a year with preference given to parents and caregivers of children who are experiencing moderate to severe behavioural concerns.
  • The Family Development Program: The Family Development Program offers services to support families in the Salmon Arm and surrounding areas. Participants accessing services are referred by the Ministry for Children and Family Development.
  • Young Parent Support Program: The program is a preventative service to strengthen families by supporting young parents in obtaining knowledge and skills to prepare for the birth of and care for their children, protect them from adverse lifestyle risks and achieve long-term family success by also participating in educational or employment ventures.
  • Launch! Program: Launch! bridges the gaps between employers and youth to create meaningful work opportunities.
  • Good Food Box: A produce buying cooperative for those people who are finding it difficult to stretch their food dollars to include fresh fruits and vegetables. Anyone can purchase a Good Food Box for $20.
