Senior Services and Compassionate Communities

Provided by Cherryville Community Food & Resource Society

Provides a range of programs and services for older adults living in the Cherryville area including a drive thru meal program, transportation, case management, recreation services, sit down dinners, and more.
The following programs are offered:
  • Compassionate Care: Provides support to individuals with a life-limiting illness and their families through death and dying. A social worker visits the patient and family at their home to answer questions, concerns or to address unmet needs.
  • Meal Program: Any older adult residing in Cherryville area who is 65+ can utilize the Drive-Thru Senior Meal Program. Fresh meals can be picked up the same day they are made, otherwise all meals are frozen and can be picked up at a later date. Meals are made and distributed on the second Saturday of each month. Cost is $5.00 per meal, maximum 2 per person. All proceeds go back to the program.
  • Aging in Motion: Older adults residing in Cherryville area can request transportation services through the Aging in Motion program. Requests are filled based on driver capacity. To request a ride, contact Amanda Derdau at 250-547-0089. Fee: $30.00 to Vernon and back; $20.00 to Lumby and back; $10.00 within 10km. If finances are a concern, please reach out to inquire about subsidy options.
  • Friendly Visiting: Reducing social isolation and loneliness by keeping Cherryville older adults connected. Volunteers coordinate directly with older adults to determine days and times that work for either a home visit or social call!
  • Senior Recreation & Socialization: Senior Sit Down Dinners are available to all older adults living in Cherryville and Lumby area. Dinners are held the last monday of the month and typically run from September – May.
  • Chair Exercise for Older Adults: A free program for local older adults looking to move their bodies with intention. Classes provided by a licensed Yoga Instructor once a week typically in Fall and Spring.
