Child and Youth Mental Health Outreach - Support for families whose children require intensive intervention strategies - Courtenay

Provided by John Howard Society - North Island

Provides individual help to children/youth and their families who are affected by mental health issues. Offered in the Comox Valley.
The Child and Youth Mental Health Outreach program help:
  • Parents increase their parenting skills; increase their awareness and access to community supports; and increase their awareness of the effects of their child’s mental health issues.
  • Families experience positive interactions with each other and with the child’s school.
  • Children and youth experience positive interactions with their family, their friends, and at school.
This free service is available in a flexible manner so it best fits client needs, and at a time of day that best fits the client's schedule – at home, in the community, and at times, at the child’s school.

The expected outcomes are:
  • Improved family functioning and stabilization
  • Improved ability to parent children with special circumstances
  • Knowledge of the cause of disruptive behaviours at home, in school and in the community
Families can be referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development, or call the John Howard Comox Valley office to ask how else to access the program.
